Mataró is the capital of "Maresme" district.
Mataró is from the historical point of view the first city to be conected by train in Catalonia and in Spain (Barcelona - Mataró) back in 1848.
During the romans called "Iluro", Mataro is facing the mediterranean sea.
Of particular interest are the "Torre Llaunder", and the basilica of "Sta. María" (XV century).
Since we are here one must visit also the "Museo Arxiu de Sta. María" (Barroque iconography) and of course its old part of town.
As a detail one can see how the modernism architecture is present on many of these summer houses.
