St. Jaume Square, Barcelona

If one return to Vía Laietana and turn into the C/ St. Jaume one will get to the political and social heart of the city, because here is where Barcelona´s city hall and the "Palau de la Generalitat" (autonomous goberment for Catalonia) have their respective headquarters.
It is located in the heart of the city´s "gothic quarter".

Both bouildings have suffered many transformations during the years, but both keep many of their original characteristics, for instance the original "stariway of honor" (interior) and the gothic frontal facade of the city hall.

Also well conserved are the "Palau de la Generalitat" interior stairways and the assembly halls or its very well conserved frontal renaisssancent facade.

There are visits to the interior of the cityhall but they must be reserved in advance.
